I have wanted to read this after finishing To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han, which is one my favorite books! So, this is my second Jenny Han read and my first Siobhan Vivian read. I loved this SOOO much! But, there is logic behind my rating which I’ll explain later.
The characters are very different. We have Lillia who is ethnic; she’s Asian and a cheerleader. Lillia is always playing the older sister role, she feels that she must look out for her sister; Nadia who is an incoming Freshman at Jar Island High School. Other than that, she’s always out doing something with her best friend, Rennie. They’re usually partying, meeting guys or hanging out with the football players.  Then, we have Kat she’s edgy. She is always at the record shop and seeing shows. A boy (Alex Lind) comes into her life the summer before senior year and she’s trying to see where their relationship stands or trying to get over him – it’s complicated. Lastly, we have Mary. Mary left Jar Island just 4 years ago because of a boy who ruined her life. She’s back at Jar Island to leave the past behind.
Kat, Lillia and Mary come together to seek revenge on three people: Alex, Reeve and Rennie. Kat and Lillia have some unresolved issues involving Rennie, & Mary is sort of the new girl. They’re friends at night, & strangers during the day.
This story is narrated by Kat, Lillia and Mary individually. I loved that aspect of the book because I could read from their perspectives and still know what was going on. The story doesn’t just revolve around the revenge part of the book, we also see the problems all of the girls are facing and what they’re doing when they’re not doing damage. For example, going to parties, school dances, football games, hanging with their other friends, etc.
I really enjoyed this and flew through it! I rated this four stars because it’s just the first book in the series, I wasn’t sure if I felt it deserved 5 stars because it’s just the beginning of the series. I can’t wait to pick up the next book, Fire with Fire.
