Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Thoughts on Tomes and created by Lainey @ Gingereadslainey with different bookish topics for each week.

If you’re interested in joining, see the Goodreads group!

Today’s topic: June 1st: Book Theme Songs
–Songs you associate with different books, whether it’s because of the lyrics matching the story, the tone fits the story, or just because you listened to it a lot while reading that particular book!

Highly Illogical Behavior by John Corey Whaley

The drink you spilt all over me
‘Lover’s Spit’ left on repeat
My mom and dad let me stay home
It drives you crazy, getting old”

I looked up a playlist for this book on Spotify and this was the first song in the playlist. It’s so accurate to this book!

we were liars

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Song: Things We Lost in the Fire by Bastille

“When loneliness came and you were away
Oh they told me nothing new,
But I love to read the words you used
These are the things, the things we lost”

As soon as I heard this song, I felt the connection to We Were Liars. I’m not going to elaborate because this is a spoiler. Also, go listen to this album because it’s so good!

PaperTowns2009_6APaper Towns by John Green

Song: Undercover Martyn by Two Door Cinema Club

This song represents Paper Towns very well! I’m proud of this match!

“You hid there last time, you know we’re gonna find you
Sick in the carseat, cause you’re not up to going
Out on the main streets, completing your mission”

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Song: Cath… by Death Cab for Cutie

Had to include this song because it’s called Cath!

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

Song: San Francisco by 5 Seconds of Summer

Okay, I just needed a reason to add a 5SOS song. But, Lola is set in San Fran and so it worked. But, it also works with this book so win-win!

“I wanna get back to where we started
To the summer night
You know, you know, you know, you know we got it right
Yeah wanna get back to San Francisco
In the fire light
You know, you know, you know, you know we had it right”

This was such a fun topic! I really love relating music to books!! What’s your favorite song that reminds you of a book?
