Five Things Friday #1

Happy Friday, TGIF everyone! I am going to start a new series on my blog, Five Things Friday. I saw weekly recaps going around on blogs recently and I wanted to join in. I spotted Sydney’s Shelves doing Five Things Friday last Friday and it looks perfect! I love Sydney and her blog so go follow her if you haven’t!

Here is my first Five Things Friday! I’m just recapping five things that happened this week! Feel free to tell me something in the comments about your week!

1. GirlBoss on Netflix

After watching 13 Reasons Why, I didn’t have any other Netflix shows to watch. I logged on sometime this week and I found Girlboss, if you’ve heard of the book #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso, this is the TV version of the book. I really want to pick up the book now that I’ve been watching the show. IT’S SO GOOD I’M ADDICTED.  If you’ve read the book let me know if it’s worth reading!

2. Spring weather is finally here???

Image result for spring is here tumblr gif

It might be too good to be true but the past few days have been in the high 70 and 80 degrees fahrenheit. Saturday alone is going to be 87 degrees!! Spring is my favorite season and I’m glad it finally feels like it. However, it feels more like summer haha! Also, I’m technically on “summer break” now because I finished all my exams however grades aren’t final/official until May 10th.

Fall Out Boy, one of my favorite bands I grew up with came out with a new song and released a date for a new album plus tour dates just yesterday. The song is titled Young and Menace. The song has a techno/EDM kind of vibe sort of like when they came back from their hiatus and put out Light Em’ Up, it’s a different FOB vibe than I’m used to. I have mixed feelings, I will always love Fall out Boy dearly but I miss the Infinity on High type of music! I preordered the CD so fast and I bought a tank top NO SHAME.

4. Okay.. All Time Low just released a new song TWO HOURS AGO.

Another one of my favorite bands, All Time Low has been releasing songs in anticipation for their upcoming album, Last Young Renegade.  I really like their new sound now that they are with the label, Fueled by Ramen. So many songs are getting released, my fangirl self cannot handle it!!!

5. My Recent Kindle Purchases

I’ve been participating in #DiversityBingo2017, a diverse bingo board created on Twitter by a group of book bloggers. I haven’t officially announced besides my posts about it on Twitter. I’ve been looking at new Contemporary books to read for the board and I found three that I really want to read so I purchased them, they were all low prices. So, if you want them go grab them! Click here for the board and more information. I’ll be posting about my progress & want to read list, soon!

Here are the books I purchased and what spot they fit. The titles are linked with the Amazon link.

Those are my five favorite things from the week! This was fun and I will continue next Friday! One of my resolutions was to be more positive and I think this will really help.

I’ll be participating in Dewey’s 24-Hour readathon this weekend, so I’m excited to have a reading filled weekend!

What was your favorite from the week?

Lola and the Boy Next Door Book Review

booktitleTitle: Lola and the Boy Next Door
Author: Stephanie Perkins

Genre:  YA, Contemporary
Publisher:  Speak
Publication Date: July 9th, 2013
Paperback:  338 Pages
What It’s About: “Lola Nolan is a budding costume designer, and for her, the more outrageous, sparkly, and fun the outfit, the better. And everything is pretty perfect in her life (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the negihborhood. When Cricket, a gifted inventor, steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.” (Goodreads)
My Rating: ★★
What I Thought: If I could describe this book in one word it would simply be different. The characters are different, the story is different and that is what I like the most about this book. Lola is raised by two dads which isn’t normal for an average YA book and I was very impressed by that. Andy and Nathan (Lola’s fathers) are hilarious, they made me smile and giggle because of their protectiveness. I tried to picture Andy and Nathan as Cam and Mitchell from the television show ‘Modern Family’ because they were similar in personality and their actions. I love how Stephanie Perkins’ characters all have a passion. For Lola, she had costume designing. Lola is not your typical teenage girl which I thought was fantastic. I loved her mindset . She didn’t care what people thought of her. She wore crazy outfits & wigs and was fully confident wearing them. Lola is such a lovely character, I admired her. I was as skeptical about her boyfriend, Max as Andy and Nathan were. I knew that he would treat her differently because of their age difference which bothered me. I waited on their break-up as the book went on and I cheered when the time came. Cricket was very interesting and I loved him at first sight. I liked how strong his love was for Lola, he literally did everything he could for her. He is amazing. Lola and Cricket’s kiss was awaited, for sure! She grew to open her feelings more for him and finally realized that they had to be together – which I was excited for! Cricket is very unselfish which is a good thing and also a bad thing. I felt bad that his sister had to be the main prority in their families life and they couldn’t see his amazing talent. The inventions he created were amazing (the “bridge” to Lola’s room!!!) but he doubted himself which made me sad for him. But, he does lighten up about it. Lola’s biological mother, I liked that she was introduced because it helped readers learn about their life more. I felt sorry for Nathan and Andy to have to deal with her showing up randomly and being practically homeless. But, she tried to hard to try with Lola specifically when she tries the leave exercise on her – a very mother/daughter scene which made me smile. The ending was perfect, what boy would help his “girlfriend” get ready for a dance like Cricket did? AH! Perfection. Everyone needs a Cricket. I am so in love with this book and enjoyed it quite a lot! What did you think?
