November Wrap Up + December TBR // sapphicathon, harry xmas to you

We have one more month left of 2017 and I cannot believe it! It’s really surreal. I wasn’t as active in November because school has been in overdrive. In today’s post, I will be wrapping up my November reading and sharing the books and readathon’s I’ll be partaking in for December.

For Read-O-Rama, I read the graphic novel, HONOR GIRL by Maggie Thrash. I loved it a whole lot. It’s a graphic memoir about Maggie Thrash and her summer at an all-girls summer camp. She explores her sexuality and it’s AMAZING!!! If you’re looking for a memoir about a lesbian, I highly recommend.

Next, I read for review, Loving Lakyn by Charlotte Reagan – this is a coming out story and m/m romance with trigger warnings for self-harm; specifically cutting, suicidal thoughts/attempt, and child abuse. I did enjoy it and I want to read Reagan’s debut novel, Just Juliet soon. See my review to find out more of my thoughts!

I also read some of the anthology, Meet Cute. I’ll include it in my End of the Year Wrap-Up because I’m 85% done.

Yep, that was my reading month and I am proud to have read anything during the crazy month of exams and having a paper to write.

This month, I will be participating in Harry Xmas to You – a Harry Potter read-a-long hosted by Maureen Keavy and other booktubers. I want to pick up GOF again. This is the next novel I need to read in the series but I want to try to read it on audio.

Next, from Dec 14-28th I will be participating in Sapphicathon. This is a bingo style readathon focused on F/F romances as the main focus of the book! They don’t get enough recognition and I can’t wait to spend the holiday season reading about cute f/f romances. Here is what I plan to read.  It’s being hosted by TashaAmelieEliseJamieson, and Miriam. You can find out more details here and follow @wlwreadathon on Twitter.

SF/F: Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst

Friends to Lovers: We are Okay by Nina LaCour

MC Realises They’re Queer: Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden

There you have it! December is going to be busy reading month, I’m excited to read new f/f romances 🙂

What are you looking forward to reading this month?

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten LGBTQIA+ Books I’ve Recently Added To My TBR!

2

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

Today’s topic:  10 Books From X Genre That I’ve Recently Added To My TBR List — I want to know what books have piqued your interest lately from whatever genre you choose!

In honor of June being Pride Month, here are the top ten LGBTQIA+ books I’ve recently added to my TBR and some I hope to read this month.

1. Over You by Amy Reed  (bisexual mc)

2. Top Ten by Katie Cotugno – follows a bisexual mc (got this ARC at Bookcon!)

3. Queer there and Everywhere: 22 People Who Changed the World
by Sarah Prager This first-ever LGBTQ history book for young adults will appeal to fans of fun, empowering pop-culture books like Rad American Women A-Z and Notorious RBG.

4. Starting From Here by Lisa Jenn Bigelow  middle grade lgbtqia+ coming of age.

5. How To Make a Wish by Ashley Blake bisexual mc & own voices!! – I just bought this from The Strand Bookstore while in NYC last weekend!.

6. Honey Girl by Lisa Freeman – I received this duology from the publisher and I’m ecstatic to get into it! Set in the summer of 1972, it follows a girl who is discovering that she likes girls.

7. Coffee Boy by Austin Chant I already have this on my TBR for the month and I’m excited to read this own voices book about a transgender boy.

8. Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde – has been getting so much hype recently that I couldn’t resist adding it to my TBR list. I know this follows a f/f love story (between a character with my name?? so I’m destined to read it, I guess.) Also follows a girl who has autism spectrum disorder and anxiety.

9. History Is All You Left Me by Adam SilveraI still have not read any of Adam Silvera’s work please shun me. But, I do want to pick up his recent release because I’ve heard so much praise for it!

10. It’s Not Like It’s A Secret by Misa Sugiura This book sounds like it’s more of a coming of age/coming out story of a girl who has her first crush on a girl. I’ve never read this perspective before, so I’m interested to see how it turns out!

Happy Pride Month!

I am going to update my progress for reading, but it’s complicated because Biannual Bibliothon started on Sunday.

However, yesterday I continued reading  Naomi & Ely’s No Kiss List. I have the physical book, but i got tired and decided to give the audiobook a try. It’s very good! This book is hilarious, I’m loving it.

I read 76 pgs of Naomi & Ely’s No Kiss List that I read.

Total pages I read  from sunday – tuesday is 220 pgs.

BOUT OF BOOKS CHALLENGE #3

The Rainbow Book Challenge is hosted by Ranty Runt of Reader.

For the cover challenge, collect books from your bookshelf (physical or virtual) and make yourself a rainbow using the covers. A rainbow is ROYGBIV (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet). Then take a photo or arrange images of those books into a rainbow, and either post to twitter (@bookybecksa & #boutofbooks), post to your own blog and leave me a link in the comments below or simply comment below with your response!

For the author challenge, use authors surnames to complete an acrostic poem style rainbow of ROYGBIV – you can only use surnames and no prefixes (eg. Vincent van Gogh could be used for a G, not a V). Any ‘writer’ is acceptable, for example, playwrights, poets and comic book/graphic novel authors)

Once you have completed either challenge (you don’t have to complete both) you are eligible to go into the running for a free book! As long as you have either commented on this blog post or mentioned me on twitter (@bookybecksa) you will go into the running.

I will only be attempting the cover challenge. Here is my book rainbow. [ROYGBIV]

BOUT OF BOOKS CHALLENGE #2

Would You Rather is hosted by Writing My Own Fairy Tale .

Would you rather:
Lend books to someone who dog-ears pages or to someone who reads with cheesy Cheetos fingers?

  • I would hate for my pages to get ruined or stained…So as much as I can NOT stand dog eared pages.. i’m going with that.

Would you rather:
Be able to meet one character of your choice or meet one author of your choice?

  •  ah… i’d love to meet Rainbow Rowell or Jenny Han… 🙂

Would you rather:
Never be allowed in a book store again or never be allowed in a library again?

  • oh no .. i don’t know!! I don’t use the library often b/c of occurrences that have happened there. So, i’d say library.

Would you rather:
Have to choose one of your favorite characters to die in their book or have to pick one of your favorite couples to break up in their book?

  • these are just getting harder and harder!  I’m going with the favorite couples choice b/c if Cath and Levi broke up…HE WOULD BE MINE!!

Would you rather:
Be required to read Twilight once a year for the rest of your life or The Scarlet Letter once a year for the rest of your life?

  • I’ve never read the Scarlet Letter and I only got to ch10 of Twilight when I started it long ago…But please don’t make me read it again. So, I’m going with the Scarlet Letter

happy reading! i’ll be back tomorrow with my day 3 progress & challenge. head over to my channel to see my day 3 challenge for the biannual bibliothon!
